A reliable Korean-English Dictionary is an indispensable tool in the arsenal of any expat.

Our favorite is the Naver Dictionary, which, in addition to accurate definitions, provides numerous examples of each word in context, so you can understand how to use them.

A note to beginners:  enter the desired word in Korean or English in the box entitled “영어사전” near the top right of the page, and it will spit back an the desired definition.

Given the major fundamental difference in the Korean and English language, any dictionary will be me more useful to those who’ve already learned a few basics and have mastered the Korean Alphabet.  However, even a complete newbie may be able to look up a word in English and pass the computer or phone to a Korean (store owner, taxi driver, etc) to convey the message.
